Trellis

Privacy Policy

Last updated September 29, 2026

Trellis is a task, calendar, and weather app. This policy explains what information Trellis handles, why, and where it goes. Your tasks, events, journal, and garden are stored on your device. A few features use outside services, and each one is described below.

At a glance

01What stays on your device

Your tasks, subtasks, events, saved locations, journal entries, garden, and settings are stored in Trellis's local app storage. They leave your device only if you turn on Google Drive backup.

02Location and weather

If you grant location access, Trellis uses your device's location to show weather and radar for where you are. You can instead search for a place by name. Trellis does not keep a history of your location.

  • Open-Meteo and the U.S. National Weather Service receive your coordinates directly from the app.
  • OpenWeatherMap, Pirate Weather, and, with Trellis Pro, Tomorrow.io and WeatherAPI.com are reached through the Trellis server, which receives your coordinates and requests the forecast from that provider for you.
  • Place search sends what you type, or the coordinates being named, to Open-Meteo's geocoding service or, through the Trellis server, to LocationIQ.
  • Radar and maps load image tiles for the area on screen from RainViewer, the Iowa Environmental Mesonet, and OpenTopoMap. Some weather map layers load through the Trellis server.

03The Trellis server

Trellis uses a small server, hosted on Cloudflare, for the features that need one. It receives only what those features require:

  • a random install ID created on your device, used to apply fair-use limits. It isn't linked to your name, email, or Google account;
  • coordinates or the map area on screen, for the weather sources and map layers listed above;
  • search text or coordinates, for place search;
  • purchase details, to confirm Trellis Pro;
  • feedback you choose to send.

This information is used only to provide these features. It isn't used for advertising or profiling, and it isn't sold.

04Google sign-in and calendars

When you connect a Google account, Trellis stores that account's email address and name on your device so it can show which account is connected.

If you connect Google Calendar, Trellis requests two permissions:

  • calendar.calendarlist.readonly, to see the list of calendars you're subscribed to, so events from all of them can appear, not only your main calendar.
  • calendar.events, to view the events on those calendars, add events you create in Trellis to your Google Calendar, and remove them when you delete them in Trellis.

Trellis uses this access only for those features. It can't share or delete your calendars. Calendar data is exchanged directly between your device and Google and is stored on your device (and in your own Google Drive backup if you turn backups on). It never passes through the Trellis server, and it isn't sold, shared with third parties, or used for advertising. Trellis doesn't access your email, contacts, or other Google data.

Trellis's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

If you enable on-device calendars (for example, a Samsung or Outlook calendar already on your phone), Trellis reads those events, read-only, to show them next to your tasks. It never edits or deletes on-device calendar events.

05Google Drive backup

Backup is an optional Trellis Pro feature. When you tap Back Up Now or turn on auto-backup, Trellis saves a copy of your tasks, subtasks, events, saved locations, garden, and journal entries to a hidden app-data folder in your own Google Drive (the drive.appdata scope).

Trellis can see only the files it created in that folder, not the rest of your Drive. Backups go directly from your device to Google and don't pass through the Trellis server. You can restore from a backup in Settings.

06Purchases

Trellis Pro is sold through Google Play, and Google processes the payment. Trellis never receives your payment details. To confirm a purchase, the app sends the product and Google Play purchase token to the Trellis server. The server verifies them with Google and returns a short-lived confirmation that unlocks Pro features.

07Feedback and feature requests

When you send feedback, your subject, message, category, and any contact information you choose to include go through the Trellis server to the developer's email inbox. Contact information is optional. Your tasks, events, journal entries, and Google account details are not attached. Please avoid including sensitive information in your message.

08Notifications and alarms

Trellis uses notification and exact-alarm permissions to remind you about tasks, deliver your daily summary, and alert you to severe weather. These are scheduled and shown entirely on your device.

09Directions

When you tap Directions on an event or place, Trellis opens the map app you've chosen (such as Google Maps or Waze) with that destination. From there, that app's privacy policy applies.

10What Trellis does not do

Trellis shows no ads and includes no analytics or tracking SDKs. It doesn't sell your data or share it with third parties for advertising. There's no separate Trellis account to create.

11Data retention and deletion

  • Data on your device stays until you delete it or uninstall Trellis. To erase it all at once, use Settings → Delete All Data. This permanently deletes your tasks, events, garden, and journal entries on the device, resets your settings, and disconnects Google Calendar.
  • A Drive backup isn't affected by Delete All Data. It stays in your Google Drive until you delete it. To remove it, open Google Drive on the web and go to Settings → Manage apps → Trellis → Options → Delete hidden app data.
  • Disconnecting Google Calendar in Settings stops Trellis's access immediately. You can also remove Trellis's access anytime from your Google Account's third-party connections page.
  • Uninstalling Trellis doesn't delete feedback messages already delivered. Email jlamp606@gmail.com to ask about or delete your feedback.

12Children's privacy

Trellis is not directed at children under 13, and Trellis does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
